Our Community

At Castle Cary Primary School, we are a proud part of our town. A thriving community, we support local events and act as an important venue for a variety of activities throughout the year.

The Moat Garden - A community project in Castle Cary

‘The purpose of the Moat Garden Project is to bring the entire community together through the creation, upkeep and use of the garden. Starting in 2007, we set out to turn an overgrown and neglected area (close to the town centre and accessible by a well-used footpath) into a wildlife-friendly community garden and meeting place.

At the Moat Garden, we carefully tend the raised beds in our growing area through regular outdoor learning sessions.  The garden is visited by classes throughout the year for science, art and DT lessons and as a lovely place to stop for lunch when we are out walking.

Community Events we have recently been a part of:

  • Castle Cary's Big Christmas
  • Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival
  • Remembrance service
  • Children’s Carnival
  • Dancing at the Wells Dance Festival
  • Macmillan Coffee morning
  • Playfest 2017
  • Bingo events for the community

Supporting Initial Teacher Training and work experience

Castle Cary Primary School is a place where adults enjoy learning.

Our school is used as a training school by a number of further education providers.

Initial Teacher Training

Bath Spa University and SCITT consider the experience we offer to Initial Teacher Training students to be of the highest quality. As a school we have a deep commitment to the continuing professional development of all staff. By mentoring and working alongside trainees we are able to examine our own practice, reflect on teaching and learning and can share in the enthusiasm and fresh ideas the trainees bring.

Other Trainees

We have a number of students each year from Yeovil and Strode Colleges. Among the courses we support are Childcare, various NVQ qualifications in working with children and Teaching Assistant training.

We are an annual provider of work experience for students from Ansford Academy and Kings Bruton.
